What conditions does Surolan treat?

It is a prescription medication for use in dogs and cats to treat skin infections and otitis externa, and an external ear infection. It is also anti-inflammatory and anti-pruritic.

How should I administer Surolan to my pet?

Shake the bottle vigorously. If using on the skin clip the hair surrounding or covering the lesion, then apply a few drops twice daily rubbing in well.

Clean the ear canal then place a few drops into the ear twice daily (for ear mites 5 drops twice daily for 14 days). Then massage the ear canal gently to ensure proper distribution.

Use for as long as your vet has prescribed.

What is the correct dosage of Surolan for my animal's weight and species?

The correct dose for your animal is as prescribed by your vet. Your vet will follow the data sheet for the medication prescribed and for some medications will adjust this taking into consideration your animal's medical history.

How long should I continue with Surolan for?

You should continue for the length of time your vet prescribed the medication for. Please read the label your vet has attached to the medication. If you suspect that your pet may be having an adverse reaction to a medication, please contact your vet for advice on continuing the medication.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Surolan?

If you miss a dose of medication, please contact your vet for advice on when to give the next dose.

What are the side-effects of Surolan?

Rarely, deafness has been reported (mainly in elderly dogs). This is usually temporary. Prolonged use can result in skin discolouration and delayed wound healing. It should not be used in pregnant animals.

Is Surolan an antibiotic?

It contains, amongst other drugs, Polymixin B, an antibiotic. 

Can I buy Surolan over the counter?

No.

Can Surolan cause diarrhoea?

No, this isn’t listed as a possible adverse reaction in the data sheet.

Does Surolan expire?

It will have an expiry date, but the shelf life, after first opening the immediate packaging, is 3 months.

Does Surolan kill ear mites? 

Yes, if used in the ear canals at 5 drops twice daily for 2 weeks.

How many drops of Surolan for dogs?

Use as prescribed by your vet. 

Can I use Surolan and Meloxaid? 

Speak to your vet, as there can be adverse interactions between non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as Meloxaid and steroids contained in Surolan.

Can I use Surolan ear drops 6 months after opening?
No.
