What conditions does Seresto treat?

It is a collar worn to kill fleas and repels ticks in cats and dogs

How does Seresto flea collar work?

The collar contains the drugs Flumethrin and Imidacloprod. Imidacloprod affects the central nervous system of the flea and so causes paralysis and death. It also repels ticks from taking a feed from the host so there is a smaller chance of tick- borne disease transmission.

What is the correct collar of Seresto for my animal's weight and species?

You need the correct collar for your dog’s weight. It is a collar to be worn around the neck, close to the skin, but not too tight. Please complete the questionnaire on our website.

How long should I continue with Seresto for?

You should continue for the length of time your vet prescribed the medication for. Please read the label your vet has attached to the medication If you suspect that your pet may be having an adverse reaction to the collar, then please contact your vet for advice on continuing with the collar and it’s medication.

Are there any side-effects of using Seresto?

Mild application site reactions such as pruritus (itchiness), erythema (redness) and hair loss may occur. These have been reported as uncommon and usually resolve within 1 to 2 weeks without the need for collar removal.

In single cases, a temporary collar removal may be recommended until the symptoms have disappeared.

In rare cases mild behavioural disorders that may include scratching at the application site may be observed in animals that are not used to wearing collars on the first few days after fitting. Ensure that the collar is not fitted too tightly.

Also in rare cases, slight and transient reactions such as depression, change of food intake, salivation, vomiting and diarrhoea might occur initially.

Cats

In rare cases, application site reactions such as dermatitis, inflammation, eczema or lesions may occur and in these instances collar removal is recommended.

As with other topical applications, allergic contact dermatitis might occur in hypersensitive animals.

Dogs

In very rare cases, application site reactions such as dermatitis, inflammation, eczema or lesions may occur and in these instances collar removal is recommended.

In rare cases neurological symptoms as ataxia, convulsions and tremor may occur. In these cases, collar removal is recommended.

The frequency of adverse reactions is defined using the following convention:
very common (affects more than 1 animal in 10)
common (affects 1 to 10 animals in 100)
uncommon (affects 1 to 10 animals in 1,000)
rare (affects 1 to 10 animals in 10,000)
very rare (affects less than 1 animals in 10,000)

Are Seresto collars safe?

You need the correct collar for your dog’s weight.

It is licensed for use in dogs and cats. Kittens need to be over 10 weeks of age, puppies over 7 weeks of age. It should not be used if an animal has a hypersensitivity to the product.

Mild application site reactions such as irritation or redness and hair loss may occur, but uncommonly and usually resolve within 1-2 weeks. In rare cases mild behavioural disorders including scratching at the collar may be seen.

Ensure it is not fitted too tightly. In rare cases slight and transient depression, change in food intake, salivation, vomiting and diarrhoea may occur. Are Seresto collars waterproof?

They are made of a rubbery material and getting them wet does not stop them working. Consider the leakage of the drugs in them into the water supply however if you like to take your dog swimming or bath it. It is a risk to fish and aquatic animals. Prolonged, intense bathing/washing may reduce its effectiveness.

Can I use Seresto and Revolution together?

Speak to your vet about mixing of parasiticides before mixing any, and about targeting all the parasites you want your pet covered for, depending on its risk and lifestyle.

Can you use Seresto and Frontline together?

You only need one of the products as they do the same thing in treating or preventing flea and tick infestation.

Do Seresto collars kill fleas?

Yes.

Yes, they are licensed to kill fleas and repel ticks in dogs and cats.

Can I take the Seresto collar off at night?

It should be left in place, as it is tricky to remove and replace again.

Can I use Advocate and Seresto together?

You should use one or the other depending which parasites you want to try and prevent for your particular pet. Discuss this with your vet.

Can Seresto collars make dogs sick?

If eaten they can lead to soft faeces, but vomiting is not an adverse reaction reported.

Does Seresto kill flea eggs? 

No, an effective house spray should be used to treat the house to remove flea eggs, along with vacuuming and washing bedding at over 60 degrees Centigrade to break the life cycle of the flea.

Does Seresto kill fleas?

Yes.

Does Seresto kill mites?

No.

How long before Seresto flea collar works?

It will start to work once it is applied. It lasts 8 months.

What is a Seresto collar?

The collars are impregnated with the drugs Flumethrin and Imidacloprod, used to treat fleas and ticks in dogs and cats.

Can I use Seresto collar and Frontline together?

There is no need as they both target fleas and ticks, you only need one product.

Can Seresto collars cause cancer?
