Selgian is a prescription medication licensed for dogs to help treat behavioural disorders of purely emotional origin: depression, anxiety. In association with behavioural therapy, signs of emotional origin observed in behavioural conditions such as over activity, separation problems, generalised phobia and unsociable behaviour. It contains the drug Selegiline hydrochloride.
How does Selgian work?
It contains Seleginine which is a Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI) that works by regulating certain chemicals in the brain.
How should I administer Selgian to my pet?
It is a tablet to be given orally in the morning before feeding.
What is the correct dosage of Selgian for my animal's weight and species?
The correct dose for your animal is as prescribed by your vet. Your vet will follow the data sheet for the medication prescribed and for some medications will adjust this taking into consideration your animal's medical history.
How long should I continue with Selgian for?
You should continue for the length of time your vet prescribed the medication for. Please read the label your vet has attached to the medication. If you suspect that your pet may be having an adverse reaction to a medication, please contact your vet for advice on continuing the medication.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Selgian?

What are the side-effects of Selgian?
Trials have shown that some dominant dogs, with behavioural disorders but no signs of aggression, may become aggressive after treatment. Those previously showing aggression may have this enhanced. Appropriate training is essential in such cases.
Emotional disorders can mask hierarchical conflicts. In dominant dogs suffering from an emotional disorder, the alleviation of the disorder can sometimes reveal a latent aggressiveness. In such cases, behavioural therapy must be instituted.

How long does Selgian take to work?
It is used alongside behavioural therapy, so it may take a long time for results to be seen. If no change is seen after 2 months there will be no benefit from continuing it. The minimum period for treatment should be 2 months.
Can Selgian make a dog seem drunk?
This is not reported in the datasheet as an adverse reaction although it can make them sleepy. If your dog is behaving differently in this manner, please speak to your vet urgently.
