What conditions does Incurin treat?

It is used to treat urinary incontinence in spayed female dogs. It is for the treatment of hormone-dependent urinary incontinence due to sphincter mechanism incompetence.

How does Incurin work?

It contains Estriol which is a short-acting natural oestrogen. In ovarioectomised female dogs it has a beneficial effect on urinary incontinence.

How should I administer Incurin to my pet?

It is a tablet to be given orally, so by mouth.

What is the correct dosage of Incurin for my animal's weight and species?

The correct dose for your animal is as prescribed by your vet. Your vet will follow the data sheet for the medication prescribed and for some medications will adjust this taking into consideration your animal's medical history.

How long should I continue with Incurin for?

You should continue for the length of time your vet prescribed the medication for. Please read the label your vet has attached to the medication. If you suspect that your pet may be having an adverse reaction to a medication, please contact your vet for advice on continuing the medication.

What are the side-effects of Incurin?

Oestrogenic effects such as swollen vulva, swollen mammary glands and/or attractiveness to males and vomiting have been observed at the highest recommended dose of 2 mg per dog. The incidence is about 5-9 %. These effects are reversible after lowering the dose.

In rare cases vaginal bleeding occurred. In rare cases development of alopecia has also been observed.

How long can a dog stay on Incurin?

Long term, so long as your vet prescribes it for your individual dog. Some dogs manage on every other day dosing instead of daily or a lower dose.

How long does Incurin take to work?

Response to Incurin can be variable and for some dogs, full onset of effect can be slower and may only be noted after 4-6 weeks.

Thus, although dose changes can be made safely prior to this, 4-6 weeks is therefore the minimum trial period recommended to assess initial response to Incurin in dogs slow to show signs of improvement of USMI.

Is Incurin safe for dogs?

It is safe is prescribed by your vet. It should not be used if they are drinking or urinating excessively. It should not be used in pregnancy, lactation or in animals less than a year old. High does could potentially have a tumour promoting effect on the mammary glands
