Can too much Thyforon increase stress in a dog?
High levels could lead to panting, hyperexcitability, drinking more and weight loss.
It is used to treat low Thyoxine levels, so the idea is to get the levels to a normal range but when starting the drug or, if the level is too high, then these effects may be seen. The level needs to be monitored carefully as each dog is an individual.
So, it does not increase ‘stress’ but effects seen such as panting might make you think your dog is stressed.
If you have concerns about your dog’s behaviour, then please speak to your vet.
Can Tramadol be taken with Thyforon for dogs?
Tramadol is not one of the drugs contraindicated on the data sheet of Thyforon. If your vet prescribes both they can be taken together.
Can you split Thyforon?
Yes, they can be divided into halves or quarters.
How long does Thyforon take to work in dogs?
The initial dose is a starting point, the level in the blood will need to be monitored after two weeks to then adjust the dose if necessary.
How often should Thyforon be given?
Follow your vet’s prescribing dose on the label of your product as each animal is an individual.
Is Thyforon the same as Canitroid?
It contains the same drug.
Is Thyforon the same as Levothyroxine?
Yes, Thyforon contains Levothyroxine but is licensed for dogs.
What is the withdrawal period for Thyforon?
Usually about a day but this varies between individuals.
When to give Thyforon before blood test?
The peak level (three hours after dosing) and the trough level (just before dosing) can be monitored. Please speak to your vet who will advise you how they wish to monitor the levels.
