What are Canaural ear drops used for?
Treating dogs and cats with ear infections and ear mites.
How long does Canaural take to work?
It will start to work as soon as applied but may take a week or longer to resolve infections. If ear mites are present it needs to be used for 3 weeks at least.
How to apply Canaural ear drops?
Clean an excess exudate or debris from the ear first. Apply the drops into the ear canal, after shaking the bottle well, the nozzle shape of the bottle helps with this, apply according to your vets' instructions but generally 5- 10 drops twice daily depending on the size of your pet. Then gently massage the ear canal holding the ear pinna upright.
What is Canaural ear drops for dogs?
It is a liquid prescription medication, in a small bottle, containing 2 antibiotics, a corticosteroid and a product to help combat yeasts. It treats bacterial and yeast infections in dog and cat's ears. It is used to treat ear mites also although the mechanism of action is unknown.
Is Canaural an antibiotic?
It contains two antibiotics as well as a product to act against yeasts and a corticosteroid.

Are Canaural ear drops dangerous for my dog if ingested?
It would depend if your dog also ingested the plastic bottle. If your dog has ingested the drops only, please call your veterinary surgeon for advice who can contact the Veterinary Poisons Information Service for up-to-date information on toxicity of products as information changes.
Are Canaural ear drops dangerous for my dog?
They should not be used if your dog has a perforated ear drum. As your vet has prescribed them, then they are likely to be safe for your dog.
Very rarely any ear preparation can lead to deafness which may be transient or prolonged.
Any drug can lead to a hypersensitivity reaction and if your dog has a known allergy to any of the products it contains, they should not be used.
Corticosteroids have a wide range of possible side effects including reduced ability to fight infection, and when they are stopped some animals may develop signs of adrenal insufficiency. If your pet becomes unwell when using or stopping any medication you need to contact your vet.
It has not been tested in pregnant or lactating dogs, so its use is not recommended.
Can Canaural cause diarrhoea?
It is unlikely, although the corticosteroid in the drops may make your dog more susceptible to infections. There are many causes of diarrhoea so if you are concerned contact your veterinary surgeon.
