Amodip Product Information
What conditions does Amodip treat?
For the treatment of high blood pressure in cats
How does Amodip work?
It contains amlodipine. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker, member of the dihydropyridine group, binding selectively to the L-type of channels found in vascular smooth muscle, cardiac muscle and cardiac nodal tissue. Amlodipine favours the L-type calcium channels found in vascular smooth muscle acting hence predominantly by decreasing vascular resistance. The major blood pressure lowering effect of amlodipine is related to its dilatory action on arteries and arterioles, while amlodipine has little effect on the venous circulation.
How should I administer Amodip to my pet?
Tablets should be given orally, by mouth, according to the instructions on the label your vet has written.
What is the correct dosage of Amodip for my animal's weight and species?
The correct dose for your animal is as prescribed by your vet. Your vet will follow the data sheet for the medication prescribed and for some medications will adjust this taking into consideration your animal's medical history.
How long should I continue with Amodip for?
You should continue for the length of time your vet prescribed the medication for. Please read the label your vet has attached to the medication. If you suspect that your pet may be having an adverse reaction to a medication, please contact your vet for advice on continuing the medication.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Amodip?
If you miss a dose of medication, please contact your vet for advice on when to give the next dose.

Mild and transient vomiting was a very common adverse event in the clinical trial (13%). Common adverse events were mild and transient digestive tract disorders (e.g. anorexia or diarrhoea), lethargy and dehydration. At the dose of 0.25 mg/kg, mild hyperplastic gingivitis with some enlargement of submandibular lymph nodes has been very commonly observed in healthy young adult cats in clinical trials and very rarely in elderly cats based on the post-marketing experience. This does not usually require stopping the treatment.
